Roblox players are confused after seeing the suggestions for an in-game name when changing their display name. When creating a display name for any online game there are always suggestions to help players decide on a name, but this latest suggestion from Roblox is causing players to be both confused and concerned.
Originally released in 2006, Roblox is an online platform that allows its community to both play games and create them. Players are able to play user-created games, chat with other players, or even program their own games using the platform's built-in game engine. The platform is mostly aimed at kids, and can be played on a variety of platforms, including PC and Steam Deck, as well as consoles such as PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

However, a change to the suggestions given to a user when changing their display name in Roblox has players confused and concerned. As pointed out by Reddit user ArtiK_2, the game is now suggesting that players use a name that their friends will recognize, such as their real name. This confused players, as this name is public to anyone on the platform. It is also concerning given Roblox's main player base is young children. Alongside this, other users were also confused about when this message appears, with some claiming that it only appears when a player is over 13 while others say that it appears for those over 18.
Roblox Suggests Players Use Their Real Name as a Public Display Name
The discovery of Roblox suggesting players use their real name in-game caused confusion among the community. Several Reddit users commenting on the post mentioned that Roblox used to tell players to not use their real name in-game. Others were concerned that this was against the Terms of Service, as sharing personal information could possibly break those terms. Even more importantly, some users fear for the safety of the younger players on this online platform who may not know any better and are relying on the game to give them proper guidelines to stay safe on the internet. Although several other users commented on the post stating that this suggestion was not meant to be taken literally and only suggests that players use part of their real name in their display name.
Some of the current online community grew up with internet safety guidelines and were always told to never use their real name online. Younger players are relying on trusted platforms such as Roblox to help keep them safe online. While more experienced players know that they should never share any personal information online, new players may not have been told this yet. Roblox suggesting that players use a name that people would recognize may not be intended to harm anyone, but the suggestion of using a player's real name can be taken in several different ways and thus caused confusion within the community.
