Ronald G. Stecker, 37, Sand Springs About 11:30 p.m.

Tuesday, Stecker was driving a pickup north on State Highway 97 just north of 129 Avenue in Osage County when his vehicle left the road, hit an embankment and rolled V-A times before landing on its roof, the patrol said. Stecker was partially ejected through the passenger side window and was pinned for an hour before being freed. He died at the scene, a patrol report said. He was not wearing a seat belt. Joseph A.

By Johnny Johnson Staff Writer In 2004, the American Cancer Society estimated that nearly 3,000 women in Oklahoma were diagnosed with breast cancer. That same year, more than 500 Oklahoma women died from the disease. Those are figures the Central Oklahoma affiliate of Susan G.

Komen for the Cure wants to eliminate by setting a lofty fundraising goal of $1 million this year to help find a way to end breast cancer. Organizers are hoping 14,000 people will show up at the Bricktown Ballpark on Saturday for the 14th annual Oklahoma City Race for the Cure to help meet that goal. There's still time for more people to sign up, according to local executive director Lorna Palmer. 75 percent stays local If the event goal is met, the one race could bring in $750,000. Palmer said up to 75 percent of those funds stay in the local community where the money is dedicated to programs that meet the breast health needs of the medically underserved.

The remaining 25 percent of the funds raised goes toward the Komen Grant Program, which is focused on breast cancer research, education, screening and treatment. No one understands the importance of the fundraising better than Donna Eichner, a registered nurse specializing in oncology. She also is a breast cancer survivor. As a runner, Eichner said she had participated in the local race for years before she was diagnosed, but until that doctor's visit, the Race for the Cure was "just another race." "After that, it took on a whole different meaning," she said. Eichner said she now knows that the Race for the Cure is the biggest fundraising activity for breast cancer, and enormous strides have been made in awareness, treatment and detection because of the Susan G.

Komen Foundation. "Ijustdon'tthinkalot of people understand what happens with the money raised for this," she said. "But now, I do. I understand it in a great way." Saturday participants can choose between a 5K race and a 1-mile family fun run, with the opening ceremony at 7:45 a.m. For those who wish to participate, but haven't signed up, there is still time, Palmer said.

His family relocated to Midwest City in 1954. Professor Davis was a member of the Oklahoma City University Art Department faculty from 1969 until his death last Saturday. Professor Davis earned a BA from Central State University in 1967, and a Master of Fine Arts degree in Painting and Printmaking from the University of Oklahoma in 1969, with colleague and fellow artist, Brunei Faris. In 1984, Jack became Chair of the OCU Art Department. He led the design plans and worked diligently to pave the way for the Norick Art Center Building, which was constructed in 1985, with the generous financial assistance of James and Madalynne Norick.

Professor Davis and his colleagues taught studio art in surplus military barracks for several years before the Norick Art Center and Gallery were built. He was especially proud of the recent additions to the Norick Art Center and the creative studio space for his students. Jack retired from teaching at OCU at the end of the 2006-07 school year. A renowned painter and printmaker, Professor Davis' art work and teachings have impacted thousands of students, as well as the Oklahoma City Art Community.
