Chase CD Rates

Chase CDs are available in terms ranging from one month to 10 years. Every term option has a minimum deposit amount of $1,000. There are two types of Chase CD rates available depending on whether you have a checking account with the bank:

  • Standard rate: If you don’t have a Chase personal checking account, the bank offers a standard APY for every CD term and deposit amount.
  • Relationship rate: If you have a linked Chase personal checking account, you’ll qualify for higher relationship interest rates.

The relationship rates in the tables below are for CDs in the $1,000 to $9,999 tier. Chase may offer higher APYs for some CD terms with balances of $100,000 or more.

To earn the highest CD rates, you’ll generally need to choose a term longer than one year.

Chase Bank CD: Who It’s Best For

Chase Bank offers competitive rates on select terms — as long as you qualify for relationship rates, which are much higher than Chase’s standard rates. You must have an eligible Chase personal checking account to earn relationship rates.

For example, Chase’s six-month CD has a standard APY of 0.01% and a relationship APY of 3.00%. If you’re already a Chase customer with a checking account, you’ll get a much better return on your money.

Chase CDs: Additional Information

Chase Bank CD rates depend on the term, the deposit amount and whether you’re a Chase checking customer. Before choosing a Chase CD, consider these factors:

Minimum Deposit Requirements

Chase’s minimum opening deposit is relatively low at $1,000.

Balance Tiers

Chase has three main balance tiers:

  • $1,000 to $9,999
  • $10,000 to $99,999
  • $100,000 or more

Chase’s standard rates are the same across all balance tiers. Relationship rates are relatively similar across all balance tiers, but depositing at least $100,000 for a two-month CD gets you the highest APY Chase currently offers.

Linked Checking Account Fees

To earn relationship rates, you need a linked Chase checking account. Most of these accounts have monthly fees, which range from $4.95 to $35. You can typically waive these fees by maintaining a certain balance.

Daily Compounding

Chase compounds interest on CDs daily and lets you choose when that interest is paid out:

  • Monthly
  • Quarterly
  • Semiannually
  • Annually
  • At the maturity date

Early Withdrawal Penalty

Withdrawing any of your principal before your CD matures will require you to pay an early withdrawal penalty on the money you take out. The amount of the penalty is based on your CD term, and it won’t exceed the interest you’ve earned.

  • CD terms of less than six months: 90 days’ worth of interest
  • CD terms from six months to less than 24 months: 180 days’ worth of interest
  • CD terms of 24 months or more: 365 days’ worth of interest

Additionally, if you withdraw money within seven days of making a principal withdrawal or opening a CD, you’ll pay at least seven days’ worth of interest.

Chase CD Rates vs. Other Top Banks

Compared to other top banks, Chase falls in the middle of the pack for its APYs and $1,000 minimum deposit requirement. While other financial institutions have higher minimum deposits, many don’t have a minimum at all.

Here’s a look at how Chase CD rates compare to some of the best CD rates from other major financial institutions:

Alternatives to Chase Bank CDs

While Chase doesn’t offer money market accounts, there are multiple Chase Bank savings accounts, each with different types of savers in mind.

Chase Savings

Chase’s most basic savings account provides features such as account alerts, access to more than 15,000 ATMs and an option to set up automatic transfers from a Chase checking account. You’ll also earn a low interest rate.

You’ll pay a $5 monthly fee unless you meet one of the following requirements:

  • Minimum daily balance of $300
  • At least $25 in repeating automatic transfers from your Chase checking account
  • A Chase College Checking account linked for overdraft protection
  • An account under 18 years old
  • A linked Chase Premier Plus Checking, Chase Sapphire Checking or Chase Private Client Checking account

Chase Premier Savings

You’ll earn more interest with a Chase Premier Savings account if you qualify for relationship rates. To qualify, you’ll need to make at least five customer-initiated transactions in a linked Chase Premier Plus or Chase Sapphire checking account during each statement period.

You’ll get access to the same features available with Chase’s standard savings account. The Premier account’s monthly fee is $25, but you can waive this fee if you have a $15,000 minimum daily balance or by linking a Chase Premier Plus or Chase Sapphire checking account.

Chase Private Client Savings

This savings account requires linking an existing Chase Private Client Checking account. It comes with no monthly service fee.

The Bottom Line: Is Chase Right for You?

Chase CD rates aren’t the highest on the market, but current Chase checking customers can earn better rates when they link their checking and CD accounts. Chase CDs do have a relatively affordable minimum deposit of $1,000 and a daily compounding schedule.

High-net-worth clients who qualify for relationship rates and have at least $100,000 to invest might also find value in Chase’s CDs, since they’ll earn the bank’s highest rates.

FAQ: CD Rates at Chase

The current CD rates at Chase Bank vary depending on whether or not you qualify for relationship rates. You can qualify for a relationship rate if you have a linked Chase checking account. If you don’t qualify for a relationship rate with Chase, the standard rate is 0.01% APY for all CD terms.

Chase is currently offering three featured CDs with relationship rates between 3.00% and 5.00% APY depending on the term length and amount deposited. For Chase’s standard CDs, relationship rates range from 2.00% to 2.50% APY for three-month to 10-year CDs. One-month CDs have a relationship rate of 0.02% APY.

The highest-paying CD rates right now tend to be offered by online banks. For a one-year CD, the best CDs on the market offer around 5.00% APY. Some of the banks offering CDs in that range include Synchrony Bank, Quontic Bank and Lending Club.

Chase’s featured CDs offer the best CD rates on balances of $100,000 or more. Chase’s two-month CD offers 5% APY and its nine-month CD offers 4.75% APY.
